Stony Brook Millstone Watershed Project Achieves LEED Platinum

April 06, 2015

The Watershed Center for Environmental Advocacy, Science, and Education was certified LEED Platinum by the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program

The facility includes classrooms, exhibit halls, a laboratory, computer center, conference rooms, gift shop, kitchen, and staff offices.  The Watershed's goal is to minimize energy consumption and consume little more, if any, energy than is produced on site. SBMWA anticipates more than 85% of the energy used will be generated from on-site renewable sources. Key strategies to achieve this are: geothermal heating and cooling, green roof, photovoltaic panels, natural passive solar day lighting, solar hot water system, rainwater harvesting, rain gardens, and innovative wetlands-based wastewater treatment system.
