Virtua Health & Wellness Center-Camden

In response to the growth in patient volume and an aging facility, Virtua conducted an assessment to renovate their existing outpatient facility that serves a growing family population in inner city Camden. Due to the condition, layout, and lack of space, Virtua chose to replace the building with a new outpatient health and wellness center to house services including: primary care, dental, podiatry, specialty time share, physical therapy, and community meeting space. The design for the primary care facility included design features to accommodate a new Ambulatory ICU care concept for patients with multiple health issues that require a variety of specialty consultations to formulate a care plan. The design also accommodates Virtua’s new implementation of central registration and also allows the staff to close off parts of the floor plan for extended hours operations. The building was constructed on a portion of the campus parking lot. The construction was phased and staff parking moved off site during construction so that operations were affected the least amount possible. The project scope also includes site improvements such as new fencing, parking lot improvements, and site security. After completion, the existing family health center is being demolished and parking will be constructed to replace the displaced parking.
