In order to provide a permanent home that better serves its students and reflect its core values of Respect, Excellence, and Perserverance; YouthBuild Philly purchased a vacant but historically and architecturally significant building in North Philadelphia for its new home, requiring building rehabilitation and adaptive re-use.
Built in the 1930s and originally used as a PECO showroom, YouthBuild’s new facility includes dedicated training facilities for each of its workforce development programs, 12 classrooms, an entrance with a central tiered seating element/stairs leading to a new mezzanine, gathering and presentation areas, dedicated administration space, and storage. A third floor addition provides a large multipurpose room, food service space, and rooftop terrace. The rooftop is a space for outoor learning, student gathering, and sustainability education.
The project won a Preservation Alliance Grand Jury Award in 2025.
